Round 11 – 2011 Reserves.
Middle Park FC 3 v 3 Collingwood City FC
MPFC: Pete; Andy Kateiva, Rich Lativy (Mark Stone, 60), Trevor, Marty Gal; Stuart Dracup, Darren ,Stephen Leitch, Dave Cahill; Berry Dresien, Andy Smith (Callum, 60)
In a contest between 2nd and 3rd on the ladder, Middle Park blew a 2 goal lead and in the end , was lucky to come away with a draw in a game which lacked any real quality from both teams. Both sides had dominant 5 minute patches but both teams did not come to terms with the pitch and conditions in a lack luster affair.
With only one change from the previous weeks dominant win against Brighton, MPFC took an early lead with a good through ball hitting Berry and was nicely tucked away from a striker whom is hitting a bit of form with a run of goals in recent games.
MPFC and Collingwood slugged out a dire 30 minute patch with no real chances and MPFC were looking at taking a 1 goal lead into half time before a neat through ball hit “Fabricio Collicini” whom tucked it in the corner to tie it all up at the break.
No changes at the half but kicking with the breeze MPFC came out in the first 5 minutes and put 2 in the back of the net and started to dominate the game however this impressive patch soon ended with the Collingwood starting to take up dominance and possession in the MPFC defensive half.
A clearance took two unlucky deflections and was duely dispatched by Johnny on the spot. A few minutes later after a few corners and continual pressure, an unfortunate own goal was scored to tie up the scores.
After that there were a final chances for both teams and with a final break 3 on 1 MPFC break away happening before the ref blew time and as he stated “all reserve games must finish at 2.45 therefore no extra time”. Disappointing to come out when we had chances to put them away but look forward to next weeks challenge of Baxter whom took the 3 points in the first game of the year.
9 points off top spot and sitting in 3rd spot so all in front of the lads and after a good spell with only 3 dropped points since Round 5 and squad numbers likely to increase again over the next few weeks, it is definitely a good foundation for the 2nd part of the season.
